Take My Hand and We'll Make It... I SWEAR.

Suddenly, my pals and I are halfway through our sophomore year at Le Moyne.

I think I am speaking for most of my close theatre friends when I say that our obligations within the Performing Arts Center have been raised a few notches. As we oh-so eagerly approach the start of Spring semester, we are confronted with a conglomerate of performances in a very short period of time. Lizz is stage managing, light designing, and more. Gloria is assistant stage managing and technical directing. Kari is acting (YOU GO, GIRL). I am assistant directing. How did we accumulate *gasp*--responsibilities?!

In terms of classes, I speak for myself when I say that I had a successful Fall semester, especially considering how busy I was with Something Clever! Next semester, I'm looking at a full plate: Directing, Scene Design, Theatre History, Ecology (blah), and Honors. Sounds like a blast, right? Well, the first three do, anyways...

Over and out.

Fall Break: A Benchmark

Life at the Burrow these days is a blur of dirty plates, Disney movies, early departures, and late returns. With rehearsals for Blood Wedding (the Book & Buskin show Kari is assistant stage managing) and Something Clever (the Major Arcana show I am co-directing and Lizz is stage managing) picking up steam, classes nearing the mid-way point, and relationships between everyone molding and changing, we have realized that there is little time to wash the dishes and make our beds, never mind breathe.

However, our busy schedules have not deterred us from having a wonderful September. A few of our Fridays were graced with Kevin making us special dinners, including baked macaroni and cheese, tacos, and a tri-salad night. Each dinner is themed or includes some kind of a challenge. The point is to make sure we can all slow down at the end of the week and sit at the table and eat together--like a family! Of course, the dishes that result from cooking a full meal can be a burden.

Fridays are always greeted warmly since each weekday brings a bowl of stress and fatigue. On an average Monday, the four of us (Lizz, Kari, Gloria, and I) leave the Burrow around 8:10 am so we can get to the Performing Arts Center for a meeting at 8:30 for Major Arcana. Then we head to class; Gloria, Lizz, and I go to Honors 201 from 9:30-11:20. [Here I must drift to only give my lovely schedule, since I cannot say I've memorized those of my apartment mates.] This is followed by returning to the PAC for work until 1:30, when I can finally go back to the apartment. I head back to the PAC yet again around 3:40 for a 4 o'clock Boot & Buskin meeting. By then, my day tends to be relatively complete; I go to dinner and sometimes have rehearsal.

Tuesdays and Thursdays mean Acting (10-11:15), Creative Writing (11:30-12:45), and Poetry (1-2:15). This many hours of classes can be very tiring, but Acting is an active start to the day, Creative Writing is amusing since we're writing poetry, and Poetry is exceedingly simple, so I can relax! Wednesday is Honors again, no work, but Playwriting from 4-7. This is one of my favorite classes, since we go sit on couches and talk about playwriting ideas and such. Fridays feature Honors (again) and work (again).

I have rehearsals at least twice a week, depending on the schedule Lizzy has made up for us. My show, Something Clever, is composed of four one-act shows: A Bench at the Edge, With or Without You, Captive Audience, and Soap Opera. My co-director, a senior named Michael, is directing the former two, and I am directing the latter two. Mine are quite funny and my cast, about 50% freshmen, is lovely.

Unfortunately, there is nothing on my mind right now, on the brink of having a Saturday with ZERO obligations (as opposed to last Saturday, when I took part in the PAC's '24 Hour Project', where we write and perform our own shows over the course of 24 hours), other than the stresses I am trying to leave behind from the past 6 weeks... or whatever it has been. I'll be in touch when something more interesting to listen to occurs in our beloved Burrow.

5 Days and Counting

A week in Florida to see the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, an 18 hour drive to Wisconsin (and 18 hours back) to see sissy, 4 lovely beach trips to embrace my inner Rhode Islander, and countless other adventures and activities later, I sit in a very cluttered room aside a hallway that slowly becomes more crowded as I transfer my "ready to be packed" items out of my bedroom door.

There are only five days until I move into the Burrow.

Granted, no one else moves in with my until the next day, and we are not all moved in until the 29th, but those days will fly by once I am reunited with my lovely campus once more.

As the looming academic year prepares to envelope me, I have composed a list of events for which I am thoroughly excited:

-Unpacking & Getting Organized
-10 Minute Shows for Family Weekend (One of which I am directing!)
-Something Clever: A Night of One Acts, presented by Major Arcana Nov. 11-13 (Co-Directing with Michael)
-Playwriting Class = An excuse to write/read one-acts
-The Lord of the Rings Audiobooks--they are in the process of being gulped down by my hungry Mac so that Sundays can include a LotR book hour
-Responsibilities: Groceries, Cooking, Cleaning, etc.
-Classy, Themed Parties

It is strange to think that almost a year ago, quite literally quivering and trying to refrain from getting sick on the van's inner door, I sat with my parents and sister for the 5 1/2 hour drive to Syracuse to move in for my first year of college. It seems as though a new life has begun since then: a new state, new friends (though I would never replace the old), new career ideas, new experiences, and new dreams.

Oh, and I nearly forgot the most important thing for my excitement list:

Foundation

Here is the story of the foundation of this blog:

My name is Rhiannon and I am a sophomore at Le Moyne College. After a year of relying on cafeteria food, I learned the hard way that the labels on foods like ice cream, muffins, and technically anything were unreliable. I had a number of allergic reactions throughout the course of the year, being severely allergic to tree nuts. After talking to lots of people and filling out some forms, I managed to get medical housing. I was placed in an apartment on campus. This housing, called The Heights, would provide me with a kitchen, with which I could prepare my own safe foods.

My apartment houses four, so my friends Lizz, Kari, and Gloria will be joining me in my apartment, which we have aptly named The Burrow because we are on the top floor of our building. Hence the title of this blog. Based on the Chapter 4 title of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, "Back to the Burrow," I came up with an oh-so-witty blog name that you see at the top of the page.

This blog will, first and foremost, be an account of my adventures, classes, and projects for my family. It will also, hopefully, become a source for recipes we have tried and enjoy, and possibly serve some other purposes.

So begins year two.
